On the week of the Cayman Engage!11, I figured I may as well finish these posts…
Have I mentioned breakfast? It was delicious! Every day we had a huge spread to choose from – but I think I only made it on the last day. What can I say, I love my sleep!
We started off the day’s education with a Media Panel lead by the lovely Michelle Rago. It was a mix of bloggers, tv, and magazine editors/producers, including, Abby Larson, Angela Desveaux, Susan Moynihan, Marilyn Oliveira , Christy Weber, and Jill Meister. It was fantastic – but almost a bit short-lived (I love this topic). I learned that while most blogs/magazines take submissions no older than 6 months, Style Me Pretty will taken then within up to 1 year (if it’s truly fabulous). I also learned that Brides are not-so-much loving the trend of unrealistic photo shoots – and that they really care more about editorials that tell a story.
We then headed to our breakout sessions – my first? “Harnessing the Power of an Aspirational Brand” with the ever-amazing Jasmine Star, Harmony Walton and Lara Casey. Love those girls!
Next up? “Bucking Tradition to Create Your Differential Competitive Advantage” with Diann Valentine. Have you seen her new show, I Do Over? It’s pretty fabulous.
Lastly, “The 4P’s – Passion, Philosophy, Platform and Process – of Creative Businesses” with Sean Low. He is incredible and I learned so much from him in such a short moment!
During the Lunch & Learn, I listened to Katy Carrier’s “Legal Round-Up for Creative Professionals” – always an insightful topic (and scary, for business owners). Katy is incredible and I always learn something new!
Then it was time for the Gala – the amazing Gala designed by Mindy Weiss. It was breathtaking – and we were treated to an incredible meal atop mirrored tables and flanked by beautiful decor. We enjoyed the sounds of a live band – amazing – and danced the night away!
At the After Party, we enjoyed an incredible DJ, fabulous late night snacks and cocktails – all from inside a hidden draped-off area!
Truly an incredible experience – and the awesome networking really made it worthwhile!
I look forward to the next time I have the opportunity to attend another Engage!
